Ayelet Zurer, star of “Shtisel,” “Munich,” and “Angels & Demons,” will host “The Bessies,” AMIT’s Academy Awards, with special appearances by Mayim Bialik and musical superstar Idan Raichel. Writer and producer Nancy Spielberg will be a guest judge for the student films. The awards are named after AMIT founder Bessie Gotsfeld. The organization’s virtual gala will showcase four student filmmakers whose work was selected from more than 50 films AMIT students made this year. AMIT also will honor several supporters from around the country.
AMIT’s first virtual Academy Awards gala will be on Sunday, November 22, at 8 p.m. It’s AMIT’s most important and biggest celebration of the year. Funds raised support at the gala will support AMIT’s 41,000 student; 70 percent of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A mother-daughter pair, DeeDee and Anna Wilkowski of Hewlett and Elana and Shami Minkove of New Rochelle, are being honored for their strong commitment to AMIT Children.
For 95 years, AMIT has supported the children of Israel, first bringing refugees from war-torn Europe and later establishing 106 schools and youth villages, which were was named the number one educational network by Israel’s Ministry of Education for the third year in a row.
