Shofar blowing in Rockland

Shofar blowing in Rockland

Jewish Federation & Foundation and the Rockland Board of Rabbis are collaborating so everyone can hear the sound of the shofar that welcomes the new year. Shofar blowing began on rosh chodesh Elul, at Hillel of Rockland, with Rabbi Dov Oliver. It will continue through the days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. At each location, the shofar blowing will take place at 9 a.m.; arrival is requested between 8:45 and 9. There will be volunteers to greet and direct cars and community members will be reminded to wear masks, remain six feet apart, and/or stay by their car. Please adhere to the rules of the host synagogue. The first 30 cars will be allowed entry on each day.

This is the schedule: Friday, September 4, Reform Temple of Rockland, Rabbi Ben Sharff; Sunday, September 13, Congregation Sons of Israel, Rabbi Ariel Russo; Wednesday, September 16, Orangetown Jewish Center, Rabbi Craig Scheff; Wednesday, September 23, Nanuet Hebrew Center, Rabbi Paul Kurland; and Friday, September 25, Montebello Jewish Center, Rabbi Josh Finkelstein.
