Jerusalem Post has reported that Hamas is returning from German-brokered negotiations with an offer to consider. According to the report, Israel is willing to trade 450 Palestinian security prisoners for Shalit.
Remember during Operation Cast Lead when everybody was talking about proportionality and Israel was accused of being too heavy handed? Well, Hamas has set the bar. One Israeli life is worth at least 450 Palestinians lives. Actually, according to Hamas’ original demands, one Israeli life is worth 1,000 Palestinian lives.
I join the Shalit family in praying for Gilad’s quick and safe return. I only hope that his freedom does not come at the expense of teaching Hamas that holding soldiers for ransom pays off, thus inviting more kidnappings.
