Rockland synagogue helps frontline workers

Congregants from the Reform Temple of Rockland performed mitzvot by donating money to the shul’s First Responders Fund, which was launched in April. It delivered more than 200 nutritious meals to the staff at Montefiore Nyack Hospital in Nyack, feeding 25 front line hospital employees on a weekly basis. The synagogue also sent meals to 15 members of the New City Ambulance Corps.

Turiello’s Pizza House in Nyack and the Little Diner in New City were among the local businesses that prepared the meals, in compliance with hospital standards and guidelines.

Johnnie Malloy, Montefiore Nyack Hospital Foundation’s executive director, said: “Our thanks are endless for all that you and everyone at the Reform Temple have done to support our staff during this incredibly trying time. You have bolstered them with nourishment when they needed to keep working without stopping. Now as we begin to return to normal operations, the need has subsided. You have helped see us through and for that we are extremely grateful.”

As the number of local covid-19 cases has diminished, the shul’s First Responders Fund will redirect its effort and existing funds to other food- based local organizations supporting families in need.
