Rabbi Boteach’s attack on Susan Rice in his recent ad in the N.Y. Times is based on a statement she made at the time of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide: “- if we use the word ‘genocide’ and are seen as doing nothing, what will be the effect on the November election -“? (“A word about Rabbi Boteach” and “Sherman quits Iran confab over ‘vulgar’ ad,” both March 6.)
He strongly disagrees (as do I) with her current views of the U.S./Israel relationship. However, I take umbrage to his suggestion in the Times that she is “soft” on genocide.
I am pleased that the rabbi has recently apologized for his attack.
