Raising awareness about kidney donations
Rabbi Josh Sturm, director of outreach for Renewal, discusses “Everything you wanted to know about kidney donation but were afraid to ask,” at a kidney donation awareness program on Thursday, July 13, at 8:15 p.m., at Congregation Beth Sholom in Teaneck. Renewal is an organization that helps facilitate kidney transplants in the Jewish community.
On a separate note, Rabbi Shelley Kniaz, director of congregational learning at Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley in Woodcliff Lake and a CBS congregant, is scheduled to donate a kidney on July 18 as a swap for Cantor Leon Lissek, who is a fellow congregant at Beth Sholom, but does not yet have a match.
The rabbis of Congregations Beth Aaron, Beth Sholom, Bnai Yeshurun, Rinat Yisrael, Shaare Tefillah, and Netivot Shalom, Chabad, and Temple Emeth, all in Teaneck, as well as other synagogues in northern New Jersey and Rockland County, support the program and Renewal.
