On the same-sex announcement controversy
I must state my dismay at the wedding announcement for a gay couple. Such an action ignores the views of Orthodox Judaism and half of the Conservative movement. A community paper simply should not do that.
Traditional marriage should consist of a man and a woman; this has been the view of society for tens of thousands of years. This has allowed humankind to reproduce in a more efficient manner.
This paper as a communal institution has no reason to join those who wish to change that definition.

Gay Americans should have full rights accorded them under civil unions. They should not be barred from adoption by onerous laws authorized by some state legislatures. They should not be barred from military service or forced to hide in a closet while serving in the military. They should not be able to radically alter the rules of traditional marriage.
