Notable bat mitzvah

I read with interest your recent article regarding the 90th anniversary of the first bat mitzvah ever to have taken place. Another momentous bat mitzvah, especially for my family, occurred on October 15, 2011. The bat mitzvah “girl” in question is the greatly-loved matriarch of our family, Claire Rosenbaum, a committed Jew and Zionist all through her life. She helped found and was first president of the River Dell chapter of Hadassah. The long-time leader of Temple Avodat Shalom in River Edge, Rabbi Neal Borovitz, said that preparing my mother-in-law for her bat mitzvah and officiating at the ceremony was “one of the most enjoyable and satisfying experiences I’ve ever had as a rabbi.” So how old was she last October 15? Eighty-seven years young! May she continue to go from strength to strength, as she always has.
