New film documents story of African-Israeli soldier
In anticipation of Yom Ha’atzmaut, Jerusalem U has released “Mekonen: The Journey of an African Jew.” The mini-documentary is from the creators of “Beneath the Helmet” and “Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference.”
The film, produced by Rebecca Shore, traces the story of Mekonen Abebe, a young African-Israeli Jew, who once was a shepherd in Africa and now is a commander in the Israeli Defense Forces.
