New book offers lessons from Jewish moms

In time for Mother’s Day, Jill Ebstein has written “At My Pace: Lessons From Our Mothers.” The book includes 38 short stories (1,000 words or less) reflecting on one lesson the contributors (many of them Jewish), learned from their mothers. The stories are grouped by age, ranging from contributors under 40, 40 to 60, and 60-plus, creating varied and interesting points of view and subject choices.

Ms. Ebstein’s mother, Rosyne Gardenswartz, who signed up for a formal program in Jewish studies when she was 81, was the impetus for the book. While Ms. Gardenswartz didn’t live to see the book published, she heard and commented on all the submissions along the way. For information, go to www.atmypacebook.com.
