New administrator/educator at Temple Beth Tikvah in Wayne
Marian Kleinman is Temple Beth Tikvah of Wayne’s new administrator and head educator. Before joining Beth Tikvah, she was the principal at Beth Am Temple in Pearl River, N.Y., for seven years, a cantorial soloist at Congregation Agudas Achim in Livingston Manor, N.Y., and cantorial soloist/education director at Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation — Emek Shalom in Simsbury, Conn. She also was the religious school principal and choir and music director at Temple of Israel in Wilmington, N.C. She also is a part-time freelance journalist who has taught at several online and community colleges and wrote a screenplay and memoir about her mother’s experiences as a member of the Belgian Resistance during the Shoah.
Ms. Kleinman holds a master’s in Jewish studies from Gratz College and another in creative writing from City College of New York. She earned a graduate prize for her academic achievement in liturgy at Gratz. She is a cantorial student at the Academy for Jewish Religion in Yonkers and writes poetry, enjoys reading, yoga, baking, gardening, music, dance, art, playing guitar, and activities with her family. She lives with her daughter, Rosa, in Wayne.
Ms. Kleinman grew up in Rockland County, where her parents were founding members of Temple Beth Sholom in New City. Her mother continues to be active in the Jewish community and with Hadassah.
