Eight Bergen County public school graduating seniors each received a $1,000 scholarship at a recent Zoom meeting of the Bergen County section of the National Council of Jewish Women. The young women were chosen for their academic records, in recognition of their leadership accomplishments in school and community, and for their commitment to Jewish values.

Two new awards were presented this year. Naomi Meininger of Northern Valley High School, who will be going to Tufts University, earned the Podorefsky scholarship, and the Jarett Fein scholarship was given to Sidney Birnberg of Ramapo High School, who will attend Brandeis University. Abigail Stern of Glen Rock High School, who will be going to Tufts University, received the Kabakow family scholarship. Olivia Fornasteri of Ramapo High School, who will go to Muhlenberg College, was the Wolf-Simon Scholarship recipient. The Marjorie G. Aerenson memorial scholarships were presented to Pascack Valley High School seniors Bari Hayden, bound for the Rochester Institute of Technology; and Rachel Cohen, headed to New York University. Emma Leipsner of Pascack Hills High School, who will study at the University of Michigan, earned the Marilyn Taffet scholarship. Lily Cohen of Bergen County Academies, bound for Northwestern University, received the Bach scholarship.

Evalyn Brownstein and Nanette Matlick co-chaired the scholarship committee. For more information, go to ncjwbcs.org.
