Nahariya mayor at the Kaplen JCC
Thank you for your coverage of Nahariya’s Mayor Jackie Sebag’s recent visit to our community. Unfortunately, an event that was a highlight of that visit was inadvertently omitted. It was perhaps one of the most significant of the events in which he participated.
I am referring to the luncheon and visit the mayor made to the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, where he and his delegation were warmly and graciously welcomed by Dr. Bernie Hammer, who organized and chaired the event, JCC President Pearl Seiden, JCC Executive Director Avi Lewinson, and Susan Penn, who spearheaded the involvement of elected officials, including the mayors of Tenafly, Closter, and Alpine, representatives of Reps. Steve Rothman and Scott Garrett, and representatives of local town councils. Mayor Sebag greatly appreciated their presence, as well as their words of welcome and friendship.
The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades has been an extremely active partner in our Partnership 2000 program since its inception seven years ago. In fact, it is a leading venue for the activities of the Partnership Community Task Force, which was chaired by Dr. Hammer for six years and is now chaired by Susan Penn.

As you wrote last week, the mayor’s visit is expected to help significantly in furthering the development of this flagship program. We just wanted to make sure the importance of the JCC’s contribution to Partnership 2000, and the significance of the event during Mayor Sebag’s visit are appropriately recognized.
