N.J. congressman meets with Netanyahu
JERUSALEM ““ U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman (D-9), a member of the House State and Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, with Subcommittee Chairwoman Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY) and Reps. Kay Granger (R-TX), Adam Schiff (D-WA), and Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month.
The delegation held meetings with officials in Israel, Egypt, and the west bank from April 13 to 19. They also met with senior Israeli defense, diplomatic, and intelligence officials.
“I came away from my meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, Egyptian President [Hosni] Mubarak, and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister [Salam] Fayad with a new hopefulness that the Iranian threat to Israel and the entire region was being actively confronted,” Rothman said, “and that a new window of opportunity to restart negotiations to achieve a comprehensive peace agreement with the Palestinians was clearly open for both sides.”
