Local artist featured at Kaplen JCC
Artwork by Jessica Alpert of Englewood is displayed this month at an exhibit at the Waltuch Gallery at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly. Her vibrant portraits celebrate resilience and strength. The art is available for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the JCC on the Palisades.
In addition, Ms. Alpert has created “Birkat HaMazon — Inspired by Women of Jewish History,” a unique bencher available on Amazon. It’s dedicated to her children in honor of her daughter Liv’s bat mitzvah, which was in June; there was no party to commemorate the day. Liv, who is 12, attends Shalshelet. Her siblings are Willow, 19, a Yeshiva University student, Judah, 17, a Kushner Academy student, and Zoe, 15, who goes to Frisch.
The bencher combines traditional blessings with full-color illustrations of Jewish matriarchs. The Hebrew and English texts include blessings for before and after meals, and the Sheva Brachot. It is tribute to the strong, resilient women of Jewish history, accompanied by my vibrant full-color paintings. It’s also a gift for bar/bat mitzvahs or housewarmings, with a portion of sales supporting charity, and November’s proceeds going to the JCC.
