Lauds conference and partners
On Nov. 15, nearly 60 caregivers gathered along with dozens of representatives from community agencies for a conference called “Caring for Your Loved One: You Are Not Alone” of Jewish Family Service of Bergen and North Hudson. Attendees heard from a panel of experts including geriatric specialist Dr. Terri Feldman Katz, elder-law expert Michael A. Manna, and Patty Stoll, JFS elder-care services assistant director, on physical and mental decline, legal and financial advice, and the range of care options and resources available through community organizations.
Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and grapple with issues in smaller workshop groups addressing sandwich generation concerns, how caregivers can take better care of themselves, and specific legal, financial, and care-management strategies.
Equally important was the opportunity to browse the resource fair, which included many community agencies, and speak personally with agency representatives and learn about the many resources available in the community to help caregivers. All who attended praised the warmth and breadth of knowledge of the representatives from the various community organizations.
