Kosher Meals on Wheels needs volunteers
Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey has provided Kosher Meals on Wheels to older adults in Bergen, Passaic, and Hudson counties for many years. Each week, a volunteer driver picks up seven nutritionally balanced meals at JFCS in Teaneck and delivers them to homebound, sometimes isolated seniors. This helps clients stay safely in their homes.
KMOW is a vital service that has seen a 53 percent increase in requests since the beginning of the pandemic. Volunteers have had to modify their approach, wearing gloves and masks and talking to seniors through their screen doors. Now more than ever before, seniors depend on these meals so that they do not have to risk infection by venturing out to stores. As a result, their isolation has become even more pronounced. Many of them look forward to these weekly visits so they can see a friendly face — even masked and from six feet away.
JFCS is in urgent need of KMOW volunteer drivers. Volunteers typically devote one to two hours each week delivering meals. If you or someone you know can spare time to make these crucial deliveries, please call the agency’s volunteer services coordinator, Patrick Kidd, at (201) 837-9090, or email him at PatrickK@jfcsnnj.org.
