Kosher corner
During the week of Sept. 22, shoppers at Wayne’s ShopRite and Stop & Shop supermarkets will be greeted by a special display.
Dena Gurkov, program director for the Chabad Center of Passaic County, said that each year the organization sets up tables at local grocery stores where shoppers can ask questions about kashrut .
As members of the Jewish community prepare for the upcoming High Holiday season, kashrut seems a natural topic.

“People ask us about keeping kosher, in general,” said Gurkov. “Or they may ask questions like how to find kosher symbols [on food packages].”
Some people also ask for information about the holidays, she said. For example, “they may ask about the customs of the holidays and the special foods we eat, like apples and honey.”
According to Gurkov, volunteers will provide consumers with a brief outline of the Jewish dietary laws.
The table will be set up at Stop & Shop on Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and at ShopRite on Wednesday and Thursday during the same hours.
