The Jewish Historical Society of North Jersey will hold its eighth annual dinner on Thursday, May 23, at 6 p.m., at Temple Emanuel in Franklin Lakes. The late Miriam Gray and the late Dr. Morris Joelson are the honorees.

Miriam Gray was a long-time devoted volunteer and JHS officer, dating back to when the organization was in Barnert Hospital in Paterson. Miriam continued volunteering with the organization when it moved to its current home in Fair Lawn and was instrumental in promoting the mission of the historical society throughout Bergen and Passaic counties.

Dr. Morris Joelson was a beloved north Jersey physician in the early to mid-twentieth century, who delivered close to 20,000 babies during his career. Dr. Joelson is best remembered as an old-fashioned physician who made house calls and treated all patients regardless of their ability to pay him for his services. His black medical bag and some of the instruments he used to treat his patients will be on display at the dinner.

Guitarist Aaron Nathans, nephew of JHS founder Jerry Nathans, will give a musical presentation in memory of Dr. Joelson.
