JFCSNNJ plans disaster training program
Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey is holding a free Disaster Preparedness and Response training program on Tuesday, October 16, at 10 a.m. The program is in conjunction with Senior Corps and the Bergen County Office of Emergency Management.
The training will offer information on how to prepare yourself, your family, and your home to effectively cope with a disaster, such as a hurricane, flood, or earthquake. Attendees will also learn how to aid in response to a disaster within the local community by effectively directing their volunteer or donation efforts.
After completing the session, attendees will be invited to become either “disaster preparedness” or “disaster response” volunteers with the agency, allowing JFCSNNJ to prepare homebound seniors to cope effectively during an emergency.
It is not mandatory to sign up for either volunteer role upon completion, but JFCSNNJ always is grateful to anyone who will commit to helping their community in times of need. In addition to the two disaster related volunteer roles, JFCSNNJ always looks for volunteers to help deliver Kosher Meals on Wheels or to provide companionship and socialization to its homebound elderly clients.
