JFCS will honor 3 at gala
Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey will hold its annual gala on Sunday, November 18, at the Edgewood Country Club in River Vale. A strolling dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the awards presentation at 7:15 and dessert at 8.
Shira Feuerstein, Jayne Petak, and Alan Scharfstein are the honorees.
Shira Feuerstein and her family founded the Wheels for Meals Bike Ride, which benefits JFCS, eight years ago. She is a Russell Berrie Foundation Fellow, has been a JFCS board member for nine years, and is a JFCS past president. Shira also is on the Women’s Philanthropy Board at Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. She and her husband, Robert, live in Alpine and are members of Temple Emanu-El in Closter.
Jayne Petak has been a leader in the Jewish community for more than 30 years and volunteers to support local agencies. She is a past president of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, has been co-president of JFNNJ’s Women’s Philanthropy, and chaired JFNNJ’s Planning & Allocation Committee. She is a board member of the JCC of Northern New Jersey and the Jewish Home at Rockleigh. She and her husband, David, live in River Vale and are members of Valley Chabad in Woodcliff Lake.
Alan Scharfstein has served in many leadership roles at the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, most recently as president from 2008 to 2011. He was responsible for a number of initiatives that changed the face of the federation and its strategic direction. He has served on the National Board of Jewish Federations of North America and the board of Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business. He lives in Woodcliff Lake with his wife, Karen, and is a member of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley.
