Jewish historical society accepts new Newark collection

Henry Pelzman

Henry Pelzman, whose family bought a home in White Meadow Lake in 1948, is a collector of historic documents, photographs, artifacts, and rare books. Now, he’s looking to preserve his collections, so he turned to Greater MetroWest’s Jewish Historical Society, which will house items that document Jewish life in Newark. The collection includes rare theatrical handbills; yearbooks from Newark’s high schools; copies of “Charm” magazine, published by L. Bamberger and Company; and an autographed copy of “The Jew in America” (1944) by Rabbi Louis Levitsky of Congregation Oheb Shalom, which now is in South Orange.

To donate family or private collections, synagogue records, or documents from Greater MetroWest’s Jewish institutions, email Linda Forgosh at lforgosh@jfedgmw.org.
