Jewish Federation: Fight the genocide in Iraq
As a Jewish community, we are horrified and revolted by the persecution of Christians, Yezidis, and other religious minorities in the Arab world, particularly in Iraq and Syria, by Islamist terrorist groups such as ISIS (or “ISIL”), the so-called “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.” Having suffered discrimination, persecution, and violence, while much of the world, including the faithful of other religions, stood idly by, we can truly empathize with the fate of the religious and ethnic minorities in Iraq.
The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey condemns these cruel and despicable actions, which have created a grave moral and humanitarian crisis in Iraq. We approve of the bipartisan Congressional support of President Obama’s decision to engage in relief and rescue efforts on behalf of the people of Iraq whom ISIS has targeted.
We are proud that the State of Israel, the only country in the Middle East where Christians are allowed to practice their religion freely and openly, has taken a strong public stand against these terrible acts and has for the last two years offered medical care and shelter to victims of ISIS violence.

We call upon the leaders of other religious communities in Northern New Jersey, and across America to join us in condemning the ISIS actions in Iraq. We also call upon other governments around the world to join together in offering protection against ISIS acts of aggression against innocent people based upon their faith and ethnic origin.
