The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades and Englewood Health will begin Jewish Baby U, a five-session childbirth course for couples planning to raise a Jewish baby. The course is given in 2-hour sessions on Wednesdays, November 14 through December 19, at 7 p.m. Classes will be at the JCC and Englewood Health’s Family Birth Place.

The program will combine childbirth education with an exploration of Jewish tradition and rituals regarding pregnancy, birth, and parenting.

“Expecting parents have so many new things to know about and learn, from childbirth basics to what to eat and how to stay active during pregnancy,” the JCC’s COO, Sue Gelsey, said. “The goal of this program is to offer Jewish couples ideas and information on how they can incorporate their heritage with their childbirth preparations and beyond. Our hope is to provide classes that will be valuable to expectant Jewish parents and give them an opportunity to meet other expectant parents who share the same values.”

The Jewish Baby U curriculum includes child birthing classes at Englewood Health’s Family Birth Place, a tour of Englewood Health, prenatal exercise classes with JCC instructors, prenatal nutrition consultation from the Graf Center for Integrative Medicine at Englewood Health, lactation education, infant care, infant CPR with Englewood Health EMS specialists, and an introduction to Judaism with a Kaplen JCC educator that includes information on building a Jewish home, Jewish names and naming ceremonies, building a Jewish community, and more.

The cost is $150 and includes Jewish books, pre-registration in PJ Library, and two-month access to the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades Health & Wellness Facilities. For more information or to register, go to jccotp.org/jewishbaby or call (201) 408-1435/1437.
