Islamist threat is real

We should not dismiss too readily concerns about “creeping Sharia law” (Aug. 19). One must consider not only the present situation, but where we think Islamists want to take us in the future. What do we think are their goals, based on the best information we have now? What are they doing to achieve those goals? Dr. Zuhdi Jasser is president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy. In a recent article (“The Islamist Threat Inside Our Military,” The Wall Street Journal, Aug. 18), he warns that the Muslim Brotherhood’s “platform of political Islam teaches Islamic revivalism and an aversion to the separation of mosque and state….These ideas need to be confronted.” If it’s true that ideas determine events, we have to take his warning seriously.
