Husband/wife scholar team in Teaneck

Iron Dome system project manager Ari Sacher and Tova Sacher of the University of Haifa are the scholars in residence at Congregation Rinat Yisrael this weekend.

Ari Sacher, a rocket scientist, has worked on designing and developing missiles for more than 20 years, and he was the project manager for Iron Dome. He has briefed hundreds of U.S. lawmakers on Israeli missile defense, including briefings on Capitol Hill at the invitation of the House majority leader and Israeli ambassador. He speaks regularly for the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Tova Sacher is completing her doctorate on Midrash Tanhuma from the Cairo genizah and coordinates the Center for Interdisciplinary Research of the Genizah at the University of Haifa.

Ari Sacher will present “The Best Offense is a Good Defense — Why Only Yaakov Avinu Could Have Designed the Patriot Missile System” at both the 8:30 and 9 a.m. Shabbat morning minyanim. Before Mincha, he will discuss “The Miracle of Iron Dome” and after it he will take on “Living on Autopilot — Why the Crash of a Jetliner Should Make us Reconsider the Way we Live.”

On Sunday morning at 8:45 a.m., Tova Sacher shares “Insights from the Cairo Genizah.”
