Hundreds attend community JCC open house

Hundreds of people came to the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades’ annual open house on September 20, where everyone was a JCC “guest for the day.” New and prospective members toured the facility, swam in the pools, worked out in the adult and youth fitness centers, attended sample classes, and met with JCC staff to learn about the programs that the JCC offers. As a special promotion, the JCC offers prospective members a $150 discount membership if they join by October 31.

“Our goal was to engage our community by offering programs that showcase the benefits of JCC membership and we were very pleased with the impact,” the JCC’s CEO, Jordan Shenker, said. “As a welcoming community organization, we make sure to offer the highest quality programs and services, from kids’ programs to cultural events to health and fitness, and after highlighting our offerings at our open house, dozens of families took tours and signed up as members. The activity and positive energy in the building was palpable, and we are still busy responding to membership and programming inquiries.”

The fun activities available at the open house included the Thurnauer School of Music’s instrument petting zoo, where people of all ages could try their hands at a variety of musical instruments; sample classes from the dance and performing arts schools; entertainment for children, including a moon bounce, face painting, glitter tattoos and balloonologists, and health- and fitness-related activities.

The JCC maintains state-of-the-art facilities and offers a wide range of programs and services, including outdoor water park and pools; year-round indoor pools; CPR-trained swim instructors and lessons for all ages; state-of-the-art adult fitness center; a luxurious spa; more than 70 free group exercise classes; free orientation and fitness assessments; basketball, racquetball and tennis courts; day care; infant and toddler programs; nursery school; the Neil Klatskin Day Camp; a Teen Youth Fitness Center and exercise classes for 6- to 13-year-olds; educational and leisure programs for adults; the JCC U, featuring art, culture, education, and health programs led by experts in their fields, and the Thurnauer School of Music.
