How to believe in heaven
The Valley Chabad Academy of Jewish Studies offers a lecture with Rabbi Gershon Schusterman, “Why God Why? — How to Believe in Heaven When it Hurts Like Hell.” It’s on Thursday, March 30, at the Atrium, 300 Tice Boulevard, in Woodcliff Lake. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the lecture is at 7. Rabbi Schusterman will sign copies of his new book, “Why God Why.”
Rabbi Schusterman says that when he comforted bereaved community members who asked him, “Where is God? If God is loving, how could this happen?” he could answer them. But when his own young wife died suddenly, leaving him, a 38-year-old widower, with 11 children, he found himself reeling. His personal quest for answers to these questions led him to a deeper exploration of Judaism’s teachings about how to cope with and transcend tragedy.
