HIAS, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, is seeking applicants for its 2009 scholarship competition. HIAS-assisted refugees who immigrated to the United States after Jan. 1, 1992, are eligible to apply. The HIAS scholarship program has been helping HIAS-assisted immigrants pursue higher education since 1974. This year the U.S. scholarship award will be $2,000.
The scholarships are for high school seniors who plan to pursue post-secondary education and students of all ages already enrolled in college, professional, vocational, university, or graduate school programs. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic excellence, financial need, and community service.
Applications are available online only. For information, visit www.hias.org/scholarships. The application must be submitted by midnight on Feb. 24. HIAS also awards scholarships in Israel; for more information about the scholarship program, visit www.hias.org.
