Those who still have fond thoughts of George Bush might consider that he has a major responsibility for what is occurring in Gaza today. Prime Minister Abbas of Fatah suspected that it would not win the last election against the Hamas faction and he took steps to delay it. In his infinite wisdom, Bush insisted that the election take place as scheduled. Fatah put up the same old slate of candidates in whom the Palestinian public had no confidence, and Hamas won control of Gaza. Hence today’s problems.
