Hard hat tour
Members of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley in Woodcliff Lake went on the “Hard Hat Tour” of Ellis Island. The tour, newly open to the public, included areas of the 750-bed Ellis Island Hospital, including the infectious and contagious disease wards, kitchen, mortuary, and autopsy rooms, as well as the laundry building, which has much of its original equipment still in place. At its peak of operation in the early 20th century, the hospital was the largest public health service facility in the United States.
