Fort Lee and Leonia shuls share space
Congregation Adas Emuno of Leonia has entered into a space-sharing partnership with JCC Gesher Shalom, a Conservative synagogue that had been in Fort Lee. Gesher Shalom now will hold Shabbat services in Leonia on Saturday mornings and will use Adas Emuno’s facilities for educational programs and special events. Gesher Shalom will continue with its High Holy Day services off-site.
Michael Fishbein, the president of Adas Emuno, told the members that “the board of trustees views this arrangement as a win-win for both congregations. We anticipate that this relationship will continue for many years.” Congregation Adas Emuno, a Reform synagogue founded in 1871 in Hoboken, has maintained its presence in Leonia since 1971.
Adas Emuno has Shabbat services on Friday nights and offers Saturday morning Torah study downstairs. When Adas Emuno has a bar or bat mitzvah, Gesher will hold services in the social hall while Adas Emuno uses the sanctuary.
