The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey invites families to take the blue bag food challenge as part of its March Mega Food Drive. That challenge is to fill a bag from the federation with non-perishable foods and invite 10 friends to do the same. That comes out to 10 bags — 10 friends — 10 days. By the end of the month, JFNNJ hopes to donate 10,000 pounds of food to 15 local food pantries.

According to Shara Nadler, who manages the federation’s volunteer center, “Those of us who have not been terribly affected by the pandemic must help those less fortunate.”

Co-chairs Geri Cantor, Tiffany Kaplan, and Yael Rabitz said, “Blue bags are everywhere!! We’ve already given out nearly 2,000 bags. The community response has been incredible.”

Donors can pick up bags at the federation’s offices in Paramus, and dropped off there when they’re full.
