It’s no secret that the Israel Defense Forces is one of the most powerful armies in the world. This is a look at how the IDF deals with urban combat, with a realistic mock Arab city equipped with mosques, buildings and sand.
Warfare is not what it used to be. Fighting isn’t out in the open field anymore. It has become urban – each alleyway a potential ambush.
In 2005, The Israeli Army built an urban warfare training center in the Tze’elim Army Base in the Negev Desert. The United States Military funded a technological building of a mock city for 45 million dollars. This has become one of the most technologically advanced sites in the world.
It looks like an Arab city. There are bulidings, mosques, even clothes hanging outside the houses to dry in the sun. You can hear the voices of Arabs singing from their mosques outside. In this realistic setting, the Israeli army trains to be the best urban warfare fighters of the world.
