Eight crazy fire hazards

Light one candle, and you might burn the house down.

That’s the conclusion drawn by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which determined last month that a novelty Golden State Warriors Chanukkah menorah poses a fire hazard and should be thrown away.

Some 1,800 menorahs were handed out last December on Jewish Heritage Night at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. According to the CPSC alert, the glue holding the orange basketball-shaped candleholders to the frame could melt under the heat of a flame, “causing the candleholders and lit candles to fall off, posing fire and burn hazards.”

While technically dubbed a recall, the CPSC announcement urges those in possession of the menorahs to dispose of them.
