Dismayed by Lipstadt endorsement

I noted with interest an Oct. 17 column penned by Deborah E. Lipstadt but was quickly dismayed to see that it was an essay offering her endorsement of Barack Obama for president of the United States.

Ms. Lipstadt is a heroic figure in the Jewish community who famously prevailed in court against Holocaust denier David Irving a number of years ago.

How she could possibly endorse Barack Obama is beyond me. Mr. Obama, despite his eloquence – when scripted – is very naïve, and dangerously so in the critical area of foreign policy. He has agreed to personally meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without preconditions during the first year of an Obama administration.

Ahmadinejad is an unabashed Holocaust denier. He has designs on wiping Israel off the face of the earth as Iran moves steadily towards developing nuclear weaponry.

It is astounding to me that these troubling facts do not seem to bother Ms. Lipstadt, who has demonstrated such sensitivity in the past to the issue of Holocaust denial. Frankly, I am stunned.
