Different, yes; better, no
A letter writer in your March 9 issue complimented Rabbi Shammai Engelmayer on “improving” The Jewish Standard since assuming the post of “interim” editor. The newspaper is different from the one Rebecca Boroson oversaw for so many years – how could it be otherwise – but it is unfair to say that Engelmayer’s version is “better.” Whether you agreed with Boroson or not, she always gave us readers lots to read and much to think about. I never met her, but I knew her through the newspaper she edited. I wish she were still more of a presence in your paper than an occasional book columnist.
