Congratulates Kirshner - The Jewish Standard

I would like to congratulate Rabbi David-Seth Kirshner for his insights regarding the short-sightedness of allowing one side in our partisan political system to co-opt the issue of support for Israel. Among only a handful of causes, backing America’s best ally in the Middle East has enjoyed bipartisan support for many years. We should never take for granted that small parcel of common ground, particularly in the current embittered and dysfunctional climate of Washington D.C. Not only would Israel suffer from polarization over the issue along party lines, as Kirshner noted, divisiveness would also create a highly efficient pathway for anti-Semitism in the mainstream. We should all be mindful of this potential, and be wary of encapsulations of the “Jewish vote.”
