Commemorating Kristallnacht

Temple Beth Tikvah in Wayne will mark the 80th anniversary of Kristallnacht during kabbalat Shabbat service on November 9. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a screening of “The Night of Broken Glass.” Services follow at 7:45 and then an oneg Shabbat.

On Kristallnacht — the “Night of Broken Glass,” November 9, 1938, in Austria and Germany — almost 200 synagogues were destroyed, more than 8,000 Jewish shops were sacked and looted, and tens of thousands of Jews were taken to concentration camps. This pogrom was named for the enormous amount of glass that was smashed.

All Holocaust and Kristallnacht survivors are encouraged to attend. Transportation can be arranged. For information, call (973) 595-6565, go to www.templebethtikvahnj.org, or email Aosur@optimum.net. The shul is at 950 Preakness Ave., Wayne.
