Chicken soup for the insomniac’s soul…
OK, so I’m not an insomniac. But I am making chicken soup for Shabbat dinner and I stupidly started at 10:30 tonight.
It’s now 20 to 1 in the morning and my soup needs at least another two hours on the stove and then time to cool before I put it in the fridge. Then tomorrow I add more seasoning and continue cooking it for a few more hours. Mama Lipowsky’s recipe, which by the way, is fantastic. You can find the recipe here.
In addition to finishing the soup tomorrow I am making a Mediterranean meatloaf, Asian chicken wings, shwarma, Basmati rice, curried cauliflower, gefilte fish, and a salad. I already made my peanut-sesame noodles, which are now sitting in the fridge overnight so the flavors can meld. If I’m feeling really ambitious, I may make Mama Lipowsky’s kneidlach. Otherwise, egg noodles it is!

Fortunately, the newspaper is closed on Friday for the Fourth of July, so I can sleep in tomorrow, er, later today before toiling away for the rest of the day. Back to the kitchen!
