Cheers for Kaufner - The Jewish Standard

Bravo to Rabbi Elie Kaufner’s fascinating and unconventional critique of “Jewish continuity” as an end in itself (“Restore Torah to its Glory,” Nov. 18)! Kaufner’s two-fold conclusion – that we can be inspired to engage in the deepest questions of meaning through the wisdom of our heritage, and that we must make Torah accessible to all – is highly significant. Northern New Jersey has a number of fine organizations and programs that aim at these noble goals, including the one that I volunteer for – the Jewish Learning Experience, which is celebrating its 26th anniversary at its annual dinner this weekend. When it comes to learning Torah, it’s never too late.
