Celebrating the memory of Chana Mlotek
The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research and the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene join to offer an evening of Yiddish music celebrating Chana Mlotek z”l.
Ms. Mlotek was a musicologist, song collector, and writer who helped craft a historical memory of Yiddish songs; she was also the mother of Zalmen Mlotek of Teaneck, the artistic director of the National Yiddish Theater Folksbiene. The concert celebrating her memory is set for Thursday, March 23, at 7 p.m., both in person at YIVO and on Zoom. Through a collection of popular songbooks Ms. Mlotek made hundreds of Yiddish songs accessible to a broad audience of musicians, ranging from amateurs to professionals.
Performances will feature Zalmen Mlotek as pianist and music director, family members Avram Mlotek, Elisha Mlotek, Hillel Yosl Ziskind Mlotek, Lee Mlotek, Moish Mlotek, Ravi Mlotek, Sarah Mlotek Dar, and Marissa Mlotek Schonbrun, as well as special guests Joanne Borts, Sarah Gordon, Elmore James, Daniella Rabbani, Eleanor Reissa, Lorin Sklamberg, and Steven Skybell.
