Lisa Margolis, a religious school teacher at Temple Beth Am in Parsippany, pictured center, in the fourth pew, read from the Torah at the shul on October 30. This marked a milestone for her, 35 years after her actual bat mitzvah, when she was allowed to read only a haftorah, but not from the Torah itself.
Lynn Ann Cutler, Beth Am’s director of lifelong learning, standing left, conducted the services and arranged the special simcha that Ms. Margolis shared with a few friends and congregants. Ms. Margolis’s mother, Peppy Margolis, who was unable to travel for the service, was included in the service — her photograph was in the front pew.
Yuri Grichetchkine, the shul’s musical director, accompanied the service. Ms. Cutler’s son, Ralph Cutler, also participated.
