Call for applicants for JWV educational grant
For more than 60 years, the New Jersey Department of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States has awarded the Seigel-Shapiro educational grant to outstanding high school seniors.
The scholarship is named for two veterans who were JWV members: Leo Seigel, a past NJ department JWV commander, and Dr. Phil Shapiro, a dentist; both served in the European theater during World War II.
Eligibility for the competitive educational grants is limited to direct descendants of members of the NJ Department of the JWV-U.S.
The grant committee is chaired by Morton Millinger, a former JWV NJ state commander who served for 16 months in Korea during the Korean conflict. His daughter, Lynn Millinger; Selina Kanowitz, an Air Force veteran and former NJ state commander who served in Operation Desert Storm; and Carl Singer, a 31-year Army veteran who is past national commander of the JWV also are on the board.
The application deadline is May 20. For an application, email Seigel.
