Board retreat a successful first for the NCJW Bergen Section
“Honoring the Past — Moving into the Future” was the theme at the first annual board retreat held by the Bergen County Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. Sixty-five people went to the all-day June 13 meeting, held at the Clinton Inn in Tenafly.
Among the guest speakers were Rabbi Jordan Millstein of Temple Sinai of Bergen County in Tenafly, who delivered the invocation; Beatrice Kahn, the national president of NCJW Inc., who talked about “Looking to the Future”; and New Jersey Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, a NCJW life member, who said that section members have supported her efforts to enact vital legislation for the benefit of women, children, and families. Elaine Pollack, a past president and Woman of the Section awardee, spoke about “Still Going Strong After 94 Years.”
The meeting was chaired by Marcia Levy, a past president, and co-chaired by recently installed co-presidents Jane Abraham, Elizabeth Halverstam, and Ruth Seitelman. Beatrice Kahn and the co-presidents led lively interactive breakout workshops on leadership and the role of the volunteer, and there were meetings on advocacy, education, and community service.
