In honor of Parashat Noach and in gratitude to God for the diversity of animals on our planet, the Fair Lawn Jewish Center/Congregation B’nai Israel hosted the “Blessing of the Animals” on October 10. Congregants and Hebrew school students introduced and showed off their dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits, and stuffed animals. Rabbi Rachel Salston, who included her family of stuffed penguins, blessed all of the visitors. Pet food donations and supplies and were collected for a local animal shelter. Shirley Leibowitz, FLJC/CBI programming chair, arranged the event.
