Bergen Family Center dedicated in memory of Lucy Doree
The Bergen Family Center and the Bergen County section of the National Council of Jewish Women recently celebrated the generosity of the family of the late Lucy Doree, a section past president. In her memory, the Doree family donated money to NCJW to buy new furniture for the center’s senior program.
Lucy Doree’s daughter, Elizabeth Doree, spoke of the love her mother had for NCJW and its commitment to community service. Mitch Schonfeld, the center’s executive director, talked about the ties between the services of the Family Center and the assistance and support from NCJW volunteers. “Lucy was a strong advocate for families and children and, like NCJW overall, was a great friend to Bergen Family Center,” he said. “We appreciate the support and generosity. The older adults are loving the furniture.”
The Bergen Family Center, founded in 1898, is the longest continuously operating family service agency in Bergen County. With a budget of $6.25M and more than 100 staff, the agency serves nearly 5,000 clients annually. For information on NCJW BCS, go to www.ncjwbcs.org or call (201) 385-4847.
