Annual JCC sports night to salute champions
The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades holds the sixth annual Sports Night of Champions: A Celebration of Jewish Athletic Excellence and Community Impact on Thursday, November 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening unites Jewish athletic icons, local legends, and community members to celebrate the impact of Jewish athletes in the world of sports. Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti — Boomer and Gio of WFAN’s #1 Sports Talk radio show — are on the program. Over the years, this gathering has raised more than $750,000 for scholarships at the JCC, highlighting the community’s generosity and commitment to education.
Since its inception in 2019, the New Jersey Jewish Sports Hall of Fame has been integral to the Sports Night of Champions. The hall showcases the talents of three classes of exceptional leaders and athletic standouts and serves as the backdrop for the prestigious induction ceremony. The Legacy of Excellence is an induction ceremony of the New Jersey Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, honoring the talents of exceptional leaders and athletic standouts. The Joseph Taub Scholar Athlete awards are given to one outstanding female and one male Bergen County high school senior. These young athletes, recognized for their excellence in sports, academics, and community involvement, each receive a $10,000 college scholarship. The Joseph and Arlene Taub Foundation, in memory of Joseph Taub, funds the scholarships to foster the development of future leaders. There’s also a way to give back, with live and reverse auctions. Attendees can bid on spectacular items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, with proceeds supporting financial assistance for individuals and families in need of the JCC’s programs and services. Each year, the JCC distributes more than $1.9 million in scholarships, emphasizing its commitment to inclusivity and community support.
