American Friends of Kidum reception
More than 90 donors, partners, educators, and friends attended the American Friends of Kidum’s inaugural New York reception at the Jewish Museum on October 17.
AFK is the newly established U.S. nonprofit dedicated to building awareness and financial support for the Society for Advancement of Education in Jerusalem. SAE provides gifted teenagers from disadvantaged communities in Israel with high-quality high school education and full participation in Israeli society.
The speakers included Ambassador Dani Dayan, Israel’s consul general in New York; SAE’s executive director, Eitan Moran; Karen Kennedy, who is the granddaughter of Louis Boyar, the visionary founder of Mae Boyar High School; and Ambassador Zion Evrony, a Boyar High School graduate who went on to become Israeli ambassador to the Vatican. The legendary folk songwriter and musician Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary performed and led a singalong.
Honorees included Dr. Charlotte K. Frank, who has been a leader in education policy and practice in the United States for more than 40 years and supports educational projects both here and in Israel; the United Israel Appeal, which allocates funds raised by Jewish federations for Israel in the United States; and the Naale Elite Academy, a program founded and run in cooperation with SAE that has brought more than 17,000 students from 65 countries to Israel to study in Israeli high schools over the past 25 years.
