Nearly 450 people came to the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades on April 15 to hear actor, author, and science advocate Alan Alda discuss the importance of empathy, good communications, and some of the other related subjects he explores in his newly released book, “If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My Face?” Mr. Alda picked Jordan Shenker, the JCC’s CEO, as a random volunteer for an improv exercise.

After his monlogue, Alda was joined by longtime Record columnist Bill Ervolino, who moderated a Q&A session. A dessert reception for JCC Patron of the Arts supporters followed; patrons had their photos taken with Mr. Alda. All attendees received a copy of the book.

Mr. Alda’s appearance, supported in part by the Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation, was one in a series of ongoing programs that will be offered each year through the JCC’s Patron of the Arts program.
